Interesting, complex, challenging

My 10 years old enjoyed a long moment working on this. The mechanisms are very impressive. A few pieces were lost in the process (or missing?), filled the form on the website and had a very good service, received in one week. My son found it quite interesting but challenging, there was a few cases where it would jam because he cannot execute everything perfectly. One time it was an execution error (backtracked and found himself, good learning), other cases was a small detail (eg attaching pins not fully removed), and finally some cases where we couldn’t fully find the cause (something would create some resistance). The resulting arm works, but the opening/closing of the grippers works only sometimes, something is not running smoothly. All in all, despite the challenges, he enjoyed, and we ordered the wired control robot arm, which should be simpler, and will be interesting to compare both.

Fun Craft for Little Scientists

Unicorn Toys provided great service, and the product arrived quickly. All pieces arrived in perfect condition, and nothing was missing. The only extra tool you’d need to get is a pair of diagonal cutter pliers, or a good pair of small craft scissors. No glue is required, as all the parts snap together.

The kit comes with an instruction booklet that consists mostly of visual instructions with very clear diagrams. The set includes 1 small solar panel, a few metal pieces, a few gears, and 4 sheets/trays of plastic pieces that have to be cut out. I really appreciated that the trays had tabs that very clearly indicated the letter and part number of each piece (Ie. A1, B4, C7, D15, etc.). Also, each piece is designed so that front and back look different. This, plus the diagrams in the instruction manual, makes assembly pretty straightforward, because it is clear which piece you need, and which direction it needs to be facing. (It would have been even more helpful if the part number was also included on each piece so that you could easily identify them once they were cut out of the trays, but the instruction diagrams are clear enough that it’s not completely necessary.)

The first step is the build the base with the solar panel. After that, a different combination of plastic pieces are added on top of the base and swapped out to make the different models. Some plastic pieces are re-used between different models. Since there is only 1 solar panel base and some re-use of pieces,…

Saltwater Fuel Cell Spider- educational and works well🕷

Several weeks ago I purchased this item for my 10-year old grand-daughter. The product is imported by Unicorn Enterprises Corp., in Mississauga Ontario. Although the spider is rated as suitable for “age 8+” it probably should be rated for age 12+. Notwithstanding the assembly and instruction manual being quite well written my grand-daughter did experience some frustration putting it together (as did her 12-year old brother AND xx-year old father). So….YY-year old grandfather (that’s me!) to the rescue!! After sanding down a few parts which seemed to still have slight burrs on them….. the spider has come alive…..crawling around contentedly and making the whole family happy!! This “toy” is in my opinion worth the price: not only in teaching the builder how to follow instructions, handle small/delicate pieces carefully, exercise patience etc but also in learning the science behind how clean energy can be (easily) created and put to use. I’d definitely recommend this product, and rate it 9/10.

p.s. Unicorn Enterprises is a delight to interact with - responsive to emails and going that “extra mile” for the customer.
